In contrast to tree dismantling, which is carried out in confined spaces, tree felling is used to remove trees standing in open spaces, where there is plenty of room to carry out the work.
A straightforward tree felling involves cutting the tree at the bottom and bringing it down in one go. More commonly, the surroundings present obstacles that can make this dangerous, so the tree is felled in sections instead.
When felling trees, it’s essential that the correct steps are followed. These include:
- forward planning and safety measures, including considering obstacles such as overhead lines or roads
- placing of warning signs where needed
- determining the correct felling direction by considering factors such as the shape of the tree and the wind direction
- pruning the trunk
- choosing the right cutting technique
- checking the tree for diseases
- deploying the correct tools.
